Pocketd

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Pocketd is a budgeting app built to be local-first and private by design. Your budget lives on your phone. It leaves your phone only when you turn on a feature that needs to, and then it goes only to the server or service you chose. This policy explains exactly when that happens.

We don't collect your data.

Pocketd has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking. The developer never receives, sees or stores your budget or anything about you.

What we collect

Nothing. Your budget data (accounts, envelopes, transactions, bills, goals, debt, projects, net worth, forecasts, money check-ins and Pocket Watcher chats) is stored only on your device, in a local database inside the app. Using Pocketd doesn't create an account, and there is no cloud service run by us behind the app.

Pocketd works fully in airplane mode. Out of the box it makes no network connections at all. The only connections it ever makes are for the optional features below, and only after you turn them on.

Tracking and analytics

Pocketd does not track you across apps or websites. It contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or other third-party SDKs that collect data, and it doesn't use cookies or advertising identifiers. In App Store terms: Data Not Collected by the developer, and no data is used to track you.

To be clear about what that label means: when you choose to connect Pocketd to a server or service (your own sync server, an AI model, a web search provider), the app sends data there because you asked it to. What happens to it there is up to whoever runs that server or service, which may be you. Each case is described below.

Optional features that use the network

Every one of these is off until you turn it on, and each one talks only to the address you entered or the service you picked.

Self-hosted sync and family budgets

You can sync your budget between your own phones, or share a budget with family, through a sync server you run yourself (for example with Docker on a home computer, reached over your own network or a private network such as Tailscale). Set it up in Settings → Data & Sync.

Sync data never goes to the developer or to any third party, unless you host your server with one.

Pocket Watcher (optional AI assistant)

Pocket Watcher is off until you connect it to an AI model (in Pocket Watcher: the ⋯ menu → Model settings). You choose where the model runs:

When you ask Pocket Watcher something, it sends your question, plus the budget details it needs to answer (for example accounts, balances, envelopes, transactions, bills and goals), plus any earlier chats you attached with "Use as context", to the model you configured. Your API key is stored in your device's secure storage (Keychain / Keystore) and is sent only to the service address you entered.

Your chats are saved on your device. If you sync, they're also saved on your own sync server. You can delete a chat at any time.

The same model is used, only when you start them, by:

Web search for Pocket Watcher

Off by default. If you turn on "allow internet" in Pocket Watcher's model settings, the model can search the web and open web pages to answer a question. The search query, which the model writes from your question, goes to the search provider you chose: DuckDuckGo (no key), or Brave Search or Tavily with your own API key, each under its own privacy policy. Web pages are fetched directly from your phone, or through a page-fetching server you run yourself if you enter its address. Search API keys are stored only on your device.

The free trial and Pocketd Full

Pocketd Full, the one-time purchase after the 30-day free trial, is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment details or who you are, and nothing about it is sent to us. The app asks your phone's store which purchases your store account has (including ones shared with you through Family Sharing) and, on iPhone, when you first downloaded Pocketd, which is how long the trial runs. It keeps the trial's start date in your phone's keychain or secure storage.

When you buy, the purchase is tied to the budget you pick, using that budget's random id (nothing about you). The store's signed record of the purchase is saved in that budget, so if the budget is a family budget on a sync server you run, everyone in it can check the record on their own phone and get full features there. That record holds the store's transaction id, the product, the purchase date, the price and currency, and the budget's id. It holds no name, email or payment details, and it goes only where the budget's data already goes (your phone, and your own sync server if you use one).

Features that stay on your device

Permissions and why we ask

Your phone asks you before Pocketd can use any of these. You can say no, or turn a permission off later in your phone's settings, and still use the rest of the app.

Children's privacy

Pocketd is a general-purpose budgeting tool and is not directed to children under 13. Because the developer collects no personal information from anyone, we collect none from children.

Data retention and deletion

Your data stays in your possession, so you decide how long it's kept:

We hold no copy of your data, and there is no account for us to delete.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct and delete your personal data, and not to have it sold. Pocketd respects these by design: your data is in your hands, we never collect or sell it, and we hold nothing to disclose or delete. For data you sent to a cloud AI service or search provider, contact that provider to exercise your rights there.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the new version at this address. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
